The italk™ project is all about helping people talk and learn in their own language.

italk™ Case Study

A case study of italk™ was undertaken in Central Australia to demonstrate and share the different ways it can be used. Lecturers at Charles Darwin University used italk to explore different ways to improve teaching English literacy.

Santa Teresa School are using italk™ to make talking books in Arrernte and English and learning materials to practise speaking Arrernte and English. Also the Santa Teresa community is using italk to translate, record and share stories about gambling.

Yipirinya School is using italk™ to make spoken translations of talking books into four Central Australian Indigenous Languages.

Different communities are using italk™ to translate spoken stories into their own language like Arrernte, Pitjantjatjara or Warlpiri.

The case study was a collaboration between Charles Darwin University, Alice Springs Campus, and isee-ilearn, the company which developed italk. The case study was funded by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework.
